Why Do I Need a Dynamic Air Mattress?
Dynamic, or alternating (air) mattresses are typically for more severe cases of pressure ulcers. However, there are a number of other reasons why someone might opt for this type of mattress:
- Pressure Ulcer Treatment: Dynamic air mattresses work by directing airflow throughout the mattress, redistributing pressure across the patient's body to alleviate excess weight in ulcerated areas. Over time with use of a dynamic air mattress, you will start to see the size and severity of pressure ulcers decrease.
- Pressure Ulcer Prevention: In redistributing the patient's weight, these mattresses significantly reduce likelihood of repeat ulceration.
