Use of Scintillation Vials
Scintillation vials have a wide range of applications, but are specifically designed for sample analysis by scintillation. This requires a scintillation counter to detect radiation for measuring radioactivity in different types of samples.
Key Features
The Fisherbrand Scintillation Vials have a number of key features:
- Large 28mm opening for easy stirring of solutions
- Pulp-backed foil lining for use during scintillation
- Polypropylene caps are robust, flexible and chemically resistant
- Borosilicate glass is hardwearing for applications with most chemicals
- Potassium free design provides low activity counts and great light transmission
- Caps fit GPI 22-400 thread finish, suitable for marking
Chemically Resistant Glass
These vials are made entirely out of borosilicate glass. This type of glass has various benefits important for experimentation:
- Chemically resistant, making it ideal for use with most substances, particularly acids
- Allows high maximum temperatures of up to around 500°C for a broad range of experiments
- Cover a wide range of thermal expansions, enabling direct seals with various metals and alloys
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion makes these shatter-resistant under rapid temperature changes
Polypropylene Lids
The lids on these scintillation vials are made out of polypropylene. This has a number of application-based benefits including:
- Strong and sturdy, resisting any tears or rips which compromise hygiene
- Moisture resistant, ideal for using with liquids and substances
- Good chemical resistance for use with acidic or alkaline substances
- Fatigue resistant for use with heavy or sharp substances requiring analysis
