What is Ulnar Deviation in Children?
Children with ulnar longitudinal deficiency are born with their wrist in a fixed, bent position toward the little finger side of the hand. The fingers and thumb may also be affected. Other muscles and nerves in the hand may be unbalanced or missing. This condition is sometimes called ulnar dysplasia or ulnar club hand.
Who Can Benefit From the Ulnar Deviation Brace?
Thankfully if caught early and treated then the majority of cases can be improved markedly. Physical therapy, finger exercises, and wearing a splint or brace to realign fingers may help to relieve ulnar deviation. Surgery may sometimes be needed to fix the deformity, relieve pain, and improve functioning. Ulnar supports are not a substitute for other forms of treatment but they can be a helpful addition to other treatments.
