Universal Contrast Flip Test
While visual acuity testing measures the finest detail visible to a patient at high contrast, contract sensitivity tests are used to define a patient’s ability to discern large targets at low contrast. The Universal Contrast Flip Test features two sets of targets, in the form of pictures and letters, making it suitable for testing contrast sensitivity in individuals of all ages, including adults and children with intellectual impairment.
More on Contrast Sensitivity Testing
During testing the patient is shown a series of cards, and these will contain pictures, letters, or both (depending on the test subject). The size of the letters and images remains the same throughout the test; however, the contrast of the outline of the image/letter reduces across the test cards so that these targets become more difficult to see against the grey background. By determining which targets the patient can and can't see - based on their eye movements when shown a card - the examiner can gauge their level of contrast sensitivity.

How the Universal Contrast Flip Test Works
The Universal Contrast Flip Test provides a quick and straightforward method of measuring contrast sensitivity. It features two different sets of visual targets - letters and images - so that it can be used to test young children, adults and all people with communication or intellectual difficulties. The size of each picture or letter remains constant throughout, but the contrast of the outline of the targets reduces so that the targets become more difficult to discern against the grey background.
The flip chart design of the Universal Contrast Flip Test ensures that the cards always remain together and in the correct order, making it quick and easy to set up for the next test. It is also easily transportable, providing the examiner with greater flexibility of use.
