When to Use an Ankle Foot Orthotic

Through functional alignment, the Bodymedics Pressure Relief AFO completely suspends the heel from pressure and friction. This makes it an effective treatment for a number of injuries and issues. These include:

• Achilles tendon repair
• Heel ulcer prevention and treatment
• Lower level ambulation with heel pressure relief
• Plantar flexion contracture
• Prevention of foot drop

How Should an Ankle Foot Orthotic Fit?

The AFO should fit snugly against the foot so that it is free from excess space to avoid slippage. However, it should not be too tight so that it rubs or is generally uncomfortable. The best way to tell if an AFO fits correctly is by lifting the toes up: there should be no room between the AFO and the heel.
