How Does the AFO Brace Work?
The Boxia AFO Support reduces the risks associated with drop foot by raising the forefoot, providing vital clearance during the swing phase of your gait. This also encourages a natural gait pattern by allowing normal ankle movement when stepping on the floor or other surfaces.
The brace consists of two separate components: a strap situated above the ankle and a non-slip hook section that goes between the tongue of your shoes and the laces/Velcro straps. The sections are connected by an elastic strap which is adjustable to provide the right level of foot lift for you. You'll also benefit from the strap's gel-padded sections that increase Achilles and dorsiflexor tendon comfort.
How Easy Is the Drop Foot Brace To Fit?
The Boxia Drop Foot Support can be fitted in three easy ways. Each method mainly depends on the shoes you wear, ensuring you can always rely on it to relieve foot drop symptoms. See below for a breakdown of each method.
Method 1: With Shoes
- Open your shoelaces and put the plate-hook attachment between the tongue and shoelaces. Ensure the hook is pointing in the direction of traction
- Attach the ankle strap above the supramalleolar, matching the gel pad with your Achilles tendon
- Enter the S-shaped hook at the front of the ankle. Then, set the hook and pull the ends to obtain the required traction

Method 2: With Trainers
- Hook the two tension straps in the holes of your shoe laces
- Attach the ankle straps above the supramalleolar, matching the gel pad with your Achilles tendon
- Enter the S-shaped hook at the front of the ankle
- Hook the S-shaped hook into the tension strap and pull the end to obtain the desired traction
Please Note: The plate hook is not needed for this method.
Method 3: Shoeless
- Attach the strap above the supramalleolar and match the gel pad to your Achilles tendon
- Set the banding (left or right) in the middle of the foot and the Velcro closures on the instep area
- Ensure the locking hook is pointing in the right direction
- Enter the S-shaped hook at the front of the ankle
- Set the hook and pull the ends, fixing it to obtain the required tension
Please Note: For this method, you will also need the Shoeless Attachment which is not included with this product. This can be purchased by ticking the box at the top of the page.
Can You Apply the Boxia AFO Support with One Hand?
While some users may find that application with one hand is possible, the multiple pieces of the Boxia AFO may make one-handed application difficult. If you only have the use of one hand, we suggest asking for help to apply the brace to ensure you get the support you need.
Can You Wash the AFO Brace?
The Boxia Drop Foot AFO Brace is easy to clean for maximum usability. Simply stick the Velcro sections to each other and wash by hand with a damp cloth and neutral soap. You can dry the support using a towel to absorb most of the dampness, and then leave it at room temperature. Do not hang it to dry and do not iron.
Disclaimer
If you are suffering from any discomfort, you should remove the brace to allow the ankle to stretch. This should help to reduce any pain that can be caused by using the support.
