Who Can Use the Dual-Sex Catheterisation Trainer?
Named after historical figures Henri Dunant and Florence Nightingale, this professional training model realistically simulates and educates on proper transurethral bladder catheterisation in both the male and female human. This teaching aid is ideal for patient care education, designed with high-quality materials which closely simulate the look and feel of real human tissues whilst remaining strong and durable.
What Is Urinary Catheterisation?
Urinary catheterisation is a procedure which involves draining the bladder and collecting urine. This is carried out by doctors and nurses using a flexible tube (catheter).
Why Might Someone Need a Catheter?
There are three key reasons why a patient may require catheterisation. These include:
- Urinary incontinence
- Urinary retention
- Surgery on the prostate or genitals
How Does the Bladder Section Work?
The shape of the bladder model is specially designed to avoid the unrealistic resistance present in many existing catheterisation trainers. This will help to prevent students from trying to 'palpate' the back of the bladder as a way to gauge insertion depth. The bladder also utilises a new, innovative type of valve to prevent unnatural resistance when the catheter enters the bladder.
How Can the Bladder Assist Catheterisation Training?
The bladder is transparent, enabling medical students to see the catheter's position and depth. This provides excellent training on Foley catheters, on which the user can actually watch the balloon inflate.
How Does the Model Suit Dual Sex Inserts?
The innovative bladder model is designed to accommodate the two different anatomies, guaranteeing an uninterrupted urethral path from the meatus to the bladder neck. The pelvic housing is modular, allowing for the use of both male and female genital inserts while strictly maintaining the unique anatomical position of each.
Why Does the Erler-Zimmer Catheter Trainer Include a Fluid Bag?
The bladder connects easily to the provided fluid bag, which works to provide a natural 'urine' flow following successful catheterisation.
How Do I Use the Erler-Zimmer Male and Female Catheter Training Aid?

How Does the 'Henri' Male Genitalia Insert Work?
The male genitalia insert can easily be attached to the bladder model, and is supplied with a replaceable foreskin with extremely realistic mobility. This enables training of retraction, handling and other hygienic procedures.
How Realistic is the Erler-Zimmer Male Urethra?
The Catheterisation Trainer includes the most realistic urethra on the market, with all four zones represented with corresponding anatomical shapes and resistance during catheterisation. The male urethra also includes a strap, which can be used to simulate prostate narrowing caused by BPH or prostate cancer. This helps to teach students why the use of a larger or more rigid catheter is critical in such situations.
How Does the 'Florence' Female Genitalia Insert Work?
The female genitalia insert will require spreading of the flexible labia in order to locate the urethral meatus. The opening is not immediately obvious, and is located very close to the open vaginal canal, highlighting the potential for unsuccessful catheterisation.
How Realistic Is the Erler-Zimmer Female Urethra?
This urethra is incredibly lifelike, offering a realistic amount of resistance during catheter insertion. It also feels incredibly realistic due to the high-quality materials used.
