What Is an Intradermal Injection?

Intradermal injections are delivered into the dermis just below the epidermis. These injections are commonly used for tuberculin skin testing, allergy testing, and local anaesthetics. To administer an intradermal injection, a 25 gauge or smaller needle is inserted under the epidermis at an approx. angle of 10°

What Is a Subcutaneous Injection?

Subcutaneous injections usually involve a short needle which injects a drug in the tissue layer between the skin and the muscle. This is often absorbed more slowly than IM injections. Drugs that are administered in this way include insulin, some hormones and pain medications such as morphine.
