What Is the Purpose of this Home Care Alarm?
The Floor Pressure Sensor Mat is designed to be used under a carpet or rug, and is useful to place near exits or beside a patient's bed to aid effective monitoring and prevent vulnerable patients from wandering. When pressure is placed on the mat, this activates the transmitter (included with purchase), and sends an alert to carers. This means that when patients stand on the mat, carers will be alerted immediately.
How Does the Pressure Mat Work?
The Pressure Mat is quick and easy to install as it comes with everything you need: mat, transmitter and pager. The small transmitter is connected to the pad and when pressure is applied to the pad, the transmitter sounds the alarm on the pager. The transmitter sends a wireless signal to the pager and has a range of 120 meters, which is long far enough to keep the mat under a doormat.
How Do I Use the Mat?
The pressure pad should always be placed under something due to the slippery nature of the pad. For those who are already unstable on their feet, it is important to ensure the mat will not be a trip hazard if they are not used to stepping onto rugs. The alarm has to be reset after a use. Even if the person has continued moving and stepped off the mat, the alarm continues to sound, alerting you as the carer to the movement.
Where Can I Use This Alarm Mat?
The 120 meter range of this alarm mat means it can be used creatively under rugs or mats around the house. Provided you can stop it from becoming wet – for instance if you have a porch covering – it can even be used under a doormat. The most suitable places for the mat are next to beds or armchairs, as well as commonly used exits or entrances to potentially dangerous areas.
Creating a Multi-Alarm System
It is possible to connect up to nine alarm-systems to the supplied pager, making it possible to create an effective multi-alarm system. For this, you could add up to eight other mat-alarms to cover a wider area of the patient's living environment, or you could add different alarm types for versatile protection.
Volume Adjustment
There are three options for the volume on the pager. These are:
- Vibrate only
- Vibrate with low-volume beeps
- Vibrate with high-volume beeps
