Parafricta Pressure Relief Brief-Style Slip-On Underwear

The Parafricta Pressure Relief Brief-Style Slip-On Underwear reduces friction and shear forces to prevent skin damage. These briefs are suitable for men and women, and are available in a range of sizes.

What Does Pressure Relief Underwear Do?
This pair of Parafricta underwear is designed to protect the hips, sacral and gluteal (buttocks) areas against pressure ulcers and skin breakdown, which result from friction and associated shear. This usually happens when a patient is frequently repositioned, or if they use a wheelchair.
Who Can Use the Parafricta Pressure-Relieving Briefs?
These briefs are ideal for bed/chair-bound patients and wheelchair users, as prolonged sitting and lying down puts considerable pressure on the buttock and sacrum areas.
Which Size Is Right for Me?
This pressure relief undergarment is available in five different sizes, ranging from Extra Small to Extra Large. To find your correct measurements, please use the table and image below. The top line on the figures indicates the waist, and the lower indicates hips. If you're unsure which size to select, go first by the closest hip size.

When Should My Patient Use Pressure Relief Undergarments?
Parafricta undergarments should be considered for your patient under the following conditions:
- If they are a regular wheelchair user
- If there are early signs of skin breakdown (e.g. non-blanching erythema, abrasions)
- If the patient drags their skin on the support surface whilst repositioning
- When patient condition results in chronic repetitive movements or restlessness
- When the dressing over an existing ulcer is frequently displaced
- When there is particularly high risk (e.g. in diabetes or at end of life)
Can I Wear Dressings and Incontinence Pads with These Briefs?
This pair of Parafricta Pressure Relief Briefs may be worn under dressings, as they can help to prevent wound dressing displacement caused by friction (rucking up). Incontinence pads may also be worn, but vulnerable skin and dressed wounds should ideally remain in contact with the lining fabric of the undergarment. Pads may be retained, if necessary, with net fixation pants under the garment.
Can I Wash the Parafricta Slip On Undergarment?
Parafricta underwear should be washed in a light load on a hot (60°C) synthetics cycle, using a domestic washing machine. In a professional laundry, the undergarments may be washed on a setting of 70°C for 10 minutes (sanitising cycle).
Does the Parafricta Undergarment Really Work?
These undergarments are backed by a body of published clinical evidence. For example, in their article entitled, 'Reducing Shear and Friction: Parafricta Undergarments', Kerr discusses the significant role Parafricta underwear can play in reducing the potential for pressure ulcers in immobile patients.
