How Does the StimuLite Contour Provide Reduce Pressure?
This cushion features a 9cm thick ventilated StimuLite honeycomb structure, which weighs only 1.5kg, and consists of multiple flexible honeycomb layers specifically engineered with soft and firm areas. These different densities work together to provide a formidable and unique pressure relief system, and include a softer area to contain the ischials and coccyx that position the pelvis for improved stability.
Pelvic Positioning and Posture
A feature of the StimuLite Contoured and Contoured Sling cushions not seen in the competition is their unique shape, specifically designed for extra support and stability. These cushions are equipped with a rear dish featuring a 'sweet spot', made of a softer honeycomb to support the ischials and the coccyx. This design provides optimal pelvic positioning, improving the posture of the user as well as adding stability.
How Does the Contour Help to Position Legs?
To provide postural assistance for the entire lower body, this cushion features adductors and an abductor to ensure the thighs remain straight while seated. These contours comfortably contain the legs, without impeding transfer.
Should I Choose the Standard or Sling Version?
Your choice of the standard Contoured or Sling option will depend on the wheelchair you intend to use the cushion in. Wheelchairs with firm seats will require the standard Contoured cushion, while wheelchairs with sling or canvas seats will require the Sling version, which features a curved bottom to provide added stability.
Hygienic and Machine Washable
Hygiene is of the utmost importance in a pressure relief wheelchair cushion, as the user can spend long stretches of time sitting on it. The designers of StimuLite cushions recognised this, manufacturing them with naturally antibacterial and antifungal material. The cushion is washable with the use of a laundry bag, which is supplied with your cushion.
Is This Cushion Supplied with a Cover?
Yes, all StimuLite cushions are supplied with a comfortable cover as standard. This cushion is made with breathable, two-way stretch fabric that is designed to move with the skin to reduce the shear and friction forces that can exacerbate pressure sore risk. This knitted fabric cover is antimicrobial, antifungal, and machine washable to ensure a high level of hygiene is maintained.
Are Spare Covers Available?
While this cushion is supplied with a standard cover, you may require the use of an additional cover for different uses, or to improve hygiene. There are four covers that can be used alongside this cushion:

How Does StimuLite Honeycomb Work?
StimuLite cushions are made with a soft, flexible form of aerospace honeycomb that has 'memory', is lightweight, and distributes weight evenly along its surface. Its cellular matrix consists of alternating thick and thin walled cells that flex when compressed to relieve pressure. When a user sits on a StimuLite cushion, the compressed cells radiate outwards to surround and support the anatomy, self-adjusting to each individual and providing excellent stability.
How Breathable Are StimuLite Cushions?
StimuLite honeycomb features a unique ventilation system consisting of tiny perforations in the cell walls, allowing air to circulate both horizontally and vertically. This creates an ideal microclimate for long-term sitting comfort, helping to reduce sweat and moisture to minimise shear and friction forces on the skin. Maceration Resistance
StimuLite honeycomb is perforated, enabling air to circulate and moisture to evaporate, thus helping to maintain skin integrity. The 'footprint' of the honeycomb cells on the user's skin, along with their flexing action, help to stimulate blood flow and enhance circulation.
Pressure Relief and Shear Reduction
StimuLite honeycomb works to relieve pressure by distributing it away from hot spots. Due to this, bony protuberances experience the same pressure as the surrounding anatomy, eliminating potential problem areas. The honeycomb conforms to body shape, distributes weight evenly, and stabilises the user in any position. The cells align themselves with the body to flex and unflex, moving with the skin and reducing dangerous shearing forces.
What If I Require More Back Support?
When adjusting to any new wheelchair cushion, you may find that your chair's back support feels slightly different, and you may require the use of an additional back support for maximum comfort.
