Erler-Zimmer Tracheostomy Simulator
The Erler-Zimmer Tracheostomy Simulator offers the most realistic approximation of a patient available today, in order to fulfil the aim of providing high quality, realistic and effective medical training for students. With the ability to practise a wide range of tracheostomy care procedures, as well as cleansing and dressing techniques, the simulator allows for comprehensive training to be undertaken to prepare for real-life patient tracheostomy.

Effective Training Simulator
When teaching medical techniques, it's vital to give students the best equipment to ensure effective training and instruction. The Tracheotomy Care Simulator provides a fantastic aid for practising a range of tracheotomy care techniques, making teaching easier for both students and teachers alike.
What Techniques Can Be Practised With This Simulator?
To ensure that students receive a comprehensive level of training, the simulator is suitable for practising a range of tracheotomy practices including:
- Oral-pharyngeal suctioning
- Nasotracheal suctioning
- Tracheal suctioning via tracheostomy
- Dressing changes
- Stoma cleansing
- Changing of the tracheostomy tube
- Cuff inflation
- Changing of tracheostomy ties
Perfect Anatomy Replication
As a bonus, the simulator provides a replication of an adult male's oral and nasal passages along with all the appropriate internal anatomy, including:
- Pharynx
- Epiglottis
- Trachea
- Oesophagus
- Stoma
- Cricoid cartilage
- Representative cervical vertebrae
- Left and right bronchi
- Bronchial tree
The simulator's oesophagus dead ends approximately 5cm below the tracheal opening
Viewing Window
In addition, the neck on the model of this simulator features a viewing window to observe suction and the trachea tube. From the bottom of the simulator users can visually verify the location of a suction catheter in the right bronchus (seen) or left bronchus (unseen).
How Realistic is this Tracheostomy Simulator?
This trainer was designed to simulate the actual "feel" of performing nasotracheal suctioning; hence the user will feel some resistance in passing the catheter. It is imperative that plenty of heavy lubrication is used while practising procedures as this simulator will not function properly unless heavy lubrication is used.
