How Comfortable Is the Alerta Car Transit Wheelchair?
The Alerta adjustable wheelchair features a comfortable and adjustable design. The footrests are both designed to swing away for easy entry and exit from the chair, as well as being detachable for storage. The footrests also flip up for further versatility, while drop-down padded armrests add extra comfort.
How Do I Transport the Chair in a Vehicle?
We recommend that, where possible, the user transfers to a vehicle seat when in transit. However, when this transfer is not practical or possible, we recommend the following:
- Ensure that the vehicle is suitable designed, insured and equipped to transport a passenger seated in their wheelchair
- Remove any accessories or any other part of the wheelchair that can be easily detached prior to departure
- Ensure the wheelchair is in a forward-facing direction. Rear facing is only acceptable if the passenger's head can be supported by a suitable bulkhead
- The vehicle must have a strap that goes across the user to create a traditional three-point belt harness
- We recommend the wheelchair is secured within the vehicle using the four-point webbing tie-down system with carabiner (as shown below)
