This pack is intended for patients who need assistance from a carer to be able to move and reposition in bed. For patients who are more mobile and don't need the full support of a carer, the base sheet can also be used on its own by patients to make independent movement safer and more comfortable.

Do These Sliding Aids Enable Movement In All Directions?

The white checked markings on the SIBA top sheet show that the sliding system enables movement lengthways and widthways along the bed. As a result it can be used to move patients from side to side, pulled downwards or upwards, turned or helped to sit up.

Who Should Not Use This Sliding System?

The top sheet in this system only reaches from the shoulders to the hips of most people, and is therefore suitable for those who have very limited mobility in their lower or upper bodies. This is because it won't be able to sufficiently support their heads, necks or legs during manoeuvres, so they may twist uncomfortably and get injured as a result.

How Does the Four-Way Bed Sheet Prevent Injury?

To help reduce physical strain on the carer, the satin on the underside of the top sheet slides easily over the satin base sheet so patients can be adjusted with minimal exertion. The leverage the sliding system provides also ensures the patient can be moved in a safe, smooth motion, while at the same time, the added polycotton material creates friction so the patient doesn't slide out of bed.

Will the SIBA Base Sheet Fit My Patient's Bed?

The SIBA Base sheet is a suitable size for most standard single healthcare beds as well as dynamic mattresses. Markers make it easier to fit by showing where and how it should be positioned on the bed. The drawstring can be tightened to the bed for a more secure fit.
